Parcours en Terrain Varié (Course in Varied Ground)

Normally the final phase of the competition, but sometimes elements can be set up on the POR course.

There are 16 stands, each with a possible 10 points available, they are scored on effectiveness and style. Each stand is numbered and must be negotiated in the correct order.

These stands can vary,  here are a few examples:

  • Natural Jumps.
  • Lead your horse up a steep incline.
  • Ride under low branches.
  • Ride down a steep bank.
  • Ride through water.
  • Mount your horse on the 'wrong' side!
  • Open and close gate without letting go
You can elect to miss any stand, i.e. you may not like jumping, or your horse may hate water. You do not get disqualified, you simply loose the 10 points. Don't forget to tell the judge that you are missing the stand though.

Next time you are on a hack try jumping a log, then get off and get on your horse on the 'off side', without him moving a hoof until both your feet are in the stirrup, sounds easy... give it a try and find out.
