| OK, so its obvious it started in France...
but what does it mean? The literal translation is 'Equestrian Trekking
Techniques Competition'.
Rumor is that it started with friends, who would tack
over to each others house, eat and drink, then impress one
another with trick riding, like standing on the saddle of the horse.
Its a three phase competition, held over one or two
days. Their are four levels, the higher the level the longer the
distance and more difficult the orienteering and PTV.

|
The competition consists of
three phases:
Phase 1 - the 'POR' is orienteering on
horseback, over varied ground. 240 points are available.
Phase 2 is the 'CTG' or Control of Gaits.
Simply a test that your horse can maintain a steady pace in canter and
walk. 60 points are available for this phase.
Phase 3 the 'PTV' is
the cross country phase, but this is NOT Burghley! There are 16
obstacles,
with a maximum of 10 points each (160 points for this phase). |
